Two-thirds of TRIO participants are potential FIRST-GENERATION college students from LOW-INCOME households.
* Due to the federal budget sequestration, a 5.23% budget cut has been administered on all Federal TRIO Programs for the 2013-14 Fiscal Year resulting in AZ losing $535,640.44 in federal TRIO funds and a reduction of services to approximately 480 AZ TRIO participants.

Federal outreach and student service programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs. TRIO also includes a training program for directors and staff of TRIO projects.
